I had an amazing group for my TGPLAN project and we decided to focus on gardening and sustainability. With the global topic of sustainability/gardening in mind we wanted to design a project that would benefit someone for a long time. We decided on building a permanent garden for JP, the owner of a local soap company called SOAP (South Austin People). JP could benefit from a garden because he uses only natural materials such as lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender in his soap. With the help of our garden JP no longer has to outsource many of these ingredients because he can grow them himself.
-Uses the native and target language to interact effectively with members of the target language community in order to create opportunities for collaborative action that improves conditions both locally and globally.
-Uses linguistic and cultural knowledge to assess options and plan an action that is realistic and culturally appropriate for the target language culture. Considers varied perspectives, potential consequences, and/or, previous approaches.
-Uses the target language to act individually or collaboratively in response to a local, regional, or global situation and assesses the impact of the action. Response is culturally responsive, innovative, and strongly likely to improve the situation.
-Reflects on how proficiency in more than one language contributed to the plan of action and the outcome of the action and honestly describes the results of actions and implications for future actions.

Living Springs Documentary
For my Living Springs project I made a documentary about the Barton Springs Salamander with footage I shot at the pool, in the education center, and an interview. The purpose of this take action project was to bring awareness to the Barton Springs Salamander in a fun and informative way. This is a reflection essay about the video I made.

Preston Grossling Grant Laughlin Tiana Thompson Juanita Escovedo Barton Springs Water Project
In our Barton Springs Water Project Video we wanted to inform the viewer about the Barton Springs Salamander. Specifically, we wanted to answer the question: “What role do the Barton Spring Salamanders play in their environment?” We made this the cornerstone of our production by asking the question in the beginning of the video, and then having it answered by Liza, a scientist that specializes in salamanders. Our video was composed with a view of Barton Springs, some factual information, and then I filmed underwater to talk about the salamander. We then show the salamander and ask Liza our question. Lastly, we talk about how the salamander brings people into the pool. Yes, the final product has changed because we added different scenes throughout the video like the part about how the salamander attracts people. Our question is simply answered by Liza in the beginning scenes. If we could redo the project we would focus more on the cultural side of Barton Springs and why people want to come to the pool. We made our research evident by giving facts about the salamander in the scene where we were filming it. Our research is relevant to the water because the salamander lives in water its entire life and if the water quality is disrupted the species could be in great danger. We are most proud of our research because we thought of a good question that was thoroughly answered. I tried to make this video as good as possible by putting time into the transitions and different shots through the video. I planned this video by thinking of a question, researching, and formulating all the different shots I would get. Our biggest obstacle was going into this project with no prior knowledge on how to make a documentary. If we had to start over we would ask a different question about the salamander concerning what we could do to preserve this awesome salamander.
Up Cycle Project (Science)
I enjoyed the Up Cycle Project because my group decided to study plastics and how devastating they are to our environment. We use two liter bottles as a medium for our up cycle project. I made a salt and pepper shaker set out of the tops and bottoms of the two liter's and then painted them with acrylic paint. This up cycle project was great for taking action because combined, all the students trash added up quickly making a small impact on Austin Highs trash patterns.
